Yes, it is true…..my blog was hacked….not once, but TWICE in 3 days!
The visible page of my blog was fine, but when I logged onto my admin area, it was just a mess! It looked very abnormal and I couldn’t do a darn thing! At first, I thought it was maybe one of those crazy internet burps, but this burp just didn’t go away.
As website owners, we are ALL at risk for attacks on our website, it is up to us to protect our sites from these attacks. As I quickly learned, one hacker can harm up to 50,000 blogs in a week! People actually have contests to see who can hack the most in a period of time.
Makes me just want to shake my head and ask why??
Anyway, I had NO idea how to fix this problem! I literally thought to myself…”Holy crap…almost a years worth of work…gone!”
So, I went online and found a company that specializes in blog hacking believe it or not! The company is called WP Security Lock. I called the company, left a message and within the hour, Regina had called me back. She did, in fact, confirm that my blog was hacked and started the process right away to get it fixed. But, she said something that gave me so much relief, she said that my work could be saved!
We then spent the next couple hours repairing everything and I am the type of person that would rather fix it myself then call someone, so she showed me what I needed to do, if this were to happen again. (wow, was it a lot of information!)So, we got it fixed that day and I logged on the next morning and it was fine. Well, the following day, I logged on again and…
Guess what…
It was hacked again! I immediately sent Regina an IM stating that it had been hacked again. She said that I had to do what we had done 2 days before all over again! What a drag, but I got it fixed by myself! (Trust me…just lucky) So, I need to thank my kids for putting up with the fact that I had almost ignored them for 2 full days!
Just some fun facts…
I was charged $150 to fix my blog.
I spent a good 2, 8 hour days to fix my blog
I wasted at least 2 days of work because I too busy fixing the bug.
I was afraid to put anything on my blog in the event it happened again.
But, I am kinda glad this happened because all of my work was saved and restored. I could have gotten a bug that wiped out ALL of my content, so I am lucky.
