  • Does your dog have unfocused listening ears?
  • Does your dog chase other dogs while they’re playing, then leave you to chase after them?
  • The recall of your dog is not very good yet.
  • Though you’re not sure where to take them, you want your dog to interact with other canines.

Apart from our neighborhood dog park, Max is my first dog in Auckland, and I wasn’t sure where else to take him. We still haven’t mastered recall for a six-month-old. He would go home with the other dogs when we went to an off-leash location. I have created a list of the top fenced off-leash dog walks in Auckland based on a Facebook poll I conducted of my dog-loving friends.

I’ll upload my fresh images to the top off-leash dog trails in my area and update my blog as we visit the other sites.

All images are my own; I’m a family photographer and YELLOW LAB puppy. Get in contact with me or visit my site to view the kind of dog and family photos I do for my clients in West, North, and Central Auckland if you would want incredible pictures of your own dog having the time of his life in his favorite spot. Although Hudsonville Point is home to my studio, I frequently work on location.

Auckland Best Off Lead Dog Walk:

Our favorite thus far! Dogs can run freely on this spacious, open beach. You will need to go through a forest to get to the off-leash area; once you reach the lagoon, it is off-leash. Max is not a fan of the water, yet he got so wet playing with the other dogs.

Honestly, I had forgotten who he was. I went home shivering from the cold ratbag, exhausted, and with a gorgeous fluffy dog. But if we can’t enjoy being messy every now and then, what good is life? If you still have time afterward, I advise coming here to bathe your pet.

Our family had a great day, so much so that we will return there on the weekends. Although it requires a significant amount of driving, the beach is truly stunning and a joyful location in general.

What a fantastic location for a family photo shoot! But only if your dog is incredibly well-behaved so we can keep him dry for the family portrait session, and if you don’t mind your dog being wet in most (or all) of the other pictures.

  • Not uneasy, but I wasn’t feeling fenced.
  • Since the stream of water is fresh, your dog doesn’t require water from you.
  • An eco-friendly loo.
  • Bins with #2s: indeed.

Our neighborhood. The 5 km Coastal Walkway that circles Hudsonville Point passes by this dog park. The actual walk is quite lengthy and led. Look for the fairy tree houses end route to the dog park if you are traveling with children.

Using the Rifle Range Amphitheatre parking lot, heading towards the large green space, and following the signs to the Bomb Point dog park is the quickest route to the dog park.

Max loves to eat a large amount of rabbit poop, so maybe stay away if you don’t want your dog to do that. Certain dry, dusty areas of the park are devoid of grass, most likely due to their location beneath large trees and the constant dog running there.

After a visit, I usually have to rinse off Max’s legs and bottom because his running after new friends always creates a large cloud of dust.

It is highly recommended that you visit the dog-friendly Catalina Bay Farmer’s Market on a Saturday or Sunday morning, after which you stroll along Boundary Road to the dog park. After your dog has had a runaround, Little Creatures is a must for drinks, lunch, or dinner.

For dogs that like to hang out, this park has a Facebook group specifically for them. If you’re looking to make sure you have company at the park, check out The Dog Squad – Bomb Point.

  • Entire fence.
  • Please bring a large bottle of water to fill the dog water bowls as there are no taps available.
  • The closest lavatory to the dog park is located at Rifle Range Amphitheatre.
  • Bins with #2s: indeed.

Near Me:

If you’re hungry after spending an hour watching your dog play, Hudsonville (West Auckland) has a ton of dog-friendly cafes.  You have so many options: Little Creatures, 160 Cafe, Catalina Cafe (for a covered area under cover in bad weather), or 25ml, which welcomes dogs inside.

The food at 25ml is excellent; enquire about their chef special, but anything on the menu will make you smile so much that your eyes will roll back into your head. Additionally, 25ml always treats your dog well.

Stop by the dog-friendly Catalina Bay Farmer’s Market between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm if you’re in town on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Your dog will adore Wagga Muffin’s dog treat stand, where they will be showered with complimentary goodies.

However, take note that you must visit Wagga Muffin before returning here. Dogs are able to locate the goods πŸ˜‰

Is off lead dog walk good for dogs?

Yes, an off lead dog walk is good for dogs. A dog that is not wearing a leash can move around more freely and at their own speed. They also tend to run this way, that way, and back to you when they are not on a leash, burning more energy that way.

Where is the best place for off lead dog walk?

Walking your reactive dog in forests and wooded areas is highly recommended. It’s usually a lovely place to stroll through and the ideal place for your dog to go exploring! Your dog expends a lot of energy sniffing. Therefore, it would be wonderful and enjoyable for your dog if they could sniff while on a trail walk!

What is the safest way for off lead dog walk?

If something unfriendly, like a skunk, porcupine, loose dog, or other wildlife, approaches you, a short leash is usually a good idea because it makes it easier to quickly flee the area.

Put on the appropriate athletic wear. Not only do your dog’s feet need to be protected, but you will also need to wear supportive walking shoes.

An off lead dog walk can be a rewarding and enriching experience for both dogs and their owners. Allowing dogs, the freedom to explore and move without the constraints of a leash fosters a sense of independence and can contribute to their overall well-being.

However, it’s essential for owners to prioritize safety and consider the specific needs and behaviors of their individual dogs.
